Thanksgiving trivia

Here are some funny little stats about turkeys:
-The largest known turkey weighed 86 pounds
-Turkeys can run up to 30 miles per hour
-Turkeys are mean and they smell really bad when they're wet
-The little red thing under their beak is called a wattle

Here are some facts about our national holiday:
-The Pilgrims landed in December of 1620 and managed to survive a harsh winter. Their first Thanksgiving was held the next year to celebrate their first rich harvest. The 13 colonies joined the feast in 1777.
-The Pilgrims included Indians on their guest list -- 91, in fact. The Indians were also invited to the next Thanksgiving feast, held in 1623.
-Washington declared November 26, 1789 to be the first national day of Thanksgiving. However, it was not until 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving to fall on the last Thursday of November, that the traditional holiday was celebrated nationally.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
